Infared wireless alert system, May 29, 2010
For my situation...this product works great. A few false alarms, but I dont think thats the fault of the unit. Its just picking up motion from something I havent figured out yet. This unit does not come with an A/C adapter...it should. I will eventually get one. Ive had the patrol about a month now and I am very pleased with it. The only reason I dont give it 5 stars is the lack of an A/C adapter. Of course it would cost more, but I would have liked that option. Possibly another of their products does come with one. So far the batteries are lasting, time will tell how long, and certainly that is going to be dependent on how many times it goes off. There is no volume setting..you only have 3 settings...high...low...and off. That is not an issue for me. For the money this is a great product. It performs for what it is intended for and works for what I wanted it for...which is to alert me when someone enters my drive way. I wanted this unit because my car was recently broken into..I do expect that in the future this unit will alert me to intruders.

The Driveway Patrol consists of two compact wireless units. One of them is a transmitter and the other one is the receiver. The transmitter has a motion sensor, and will send information to the receiver indicating that someone or something has activated it.

The transmitter encases the circuitry and one 9-volt battery in hard, durable plastic. The battery fits neatly in a small compartment accessible from the rear of the unit by removing a cover which is secured with two small screws. A rubber gasket prevents moisture from entering through the battery compartment. It is adviseable to remove the battery when the unit is stored for long periods. Included in the package are two screws which can be used to secure the unit to any wooden support of your house or mailbox. The sensor has a range of about 400 feet.

The receiver is also constructed of durable plastic. It operates on three "C" cell batteries, which can be easily accessed by sliding the cover towards the bottom of the unit. In addition, the receiver can also accept power from a 4.5 volt DC charger plugged into a wall outlet. When the transmitter signals that its beam has been interrupted, the receiver gives off a pleasant chime in two tones. The chime's volume can be adjusted for high or low.

Before permanently installing the transmitter, you should test various locations until you are certain it will not be activated by stray animals or vehicles passing along the street.

I researched the availability of the Driveway Patrol on the internet, and found that the most reasonable price ($14.60, plus shipping) was offered by one of the merchants on Amazon.com. I highly recommend the Driveway Patrol, especially because it can alert you not only about visitors, but also unwanted intruders.

I bought this after reading the mixed reviews and decided to take a chance. In my situation it worked pretty well with few false alarms here and there. I installed it to a beam on the front porch, which alerts me anyone standing in my front door that didn't ring the bell. This usually applies to drop-off of smaller items from Amazon, and other carriers. Now whenever a packaged is dropped off without ringing my bell, I will know immediately when I'm home!

As for sensitivity, my porch is pretty much blocked off/closed off in most directions so it only has a small area to detect. Only one direction has a tree 30 feet in sight. There has been false alarm whenever wind blows hard enough to cause the branches and leafs to move. I understand this device has pretty good range, so that's understandable.

Do make sure you put in batteries that have similar charges left (or brand new). I first put any available batteries (including one that's 3/4 drained), and it wouldn't receive the signal from the motion sensor consistently. This warning is given in the small instruction manual, but who reads that first!

Great little product - sure let's us know when someone comes down our driveway. We did have to put some tape on either side of the sensor (per their suggestion), as the wind was setting it off. That little thing did the trick perfectly....

This is a great device for security. Put it up on a wall, fence, tree, or set it on a box. I have one on each side of my mobile home. Anyone coming into my yard, sets the alarm off. I can look out and see who is coming. Also, I carry one when I am traveling. I set it just inside my door, and if anyone opens the door, the alarm goes off. It's portable and wireless. I am very please with this purchase.

This item does work and with two volume settings can be clearly heard even with hearing problems. I did find it too sensitive and toned down the face with duct tape. That made it too insensitive so I removed the tape. I've repositioned it several times and been able to test activate it by walking past.

I had contractors in and out of my property last week and it did not once activate on their comings and goings. I need to tweak it some more no doubt.

The item does work but needs more TLC than I bargained for.

I very much like this product, (1) for the low price, (2) separate chime unit from motion sensor, (3) power adapter option available (to save on batteries). I discreetly placed the motion sensor to focus on my front porch and the speaker (chime) unit inside my garage. Unlike other products, the motion sensor is attached with the chime unit. Imagine how awkward that would be. So I purchased another unit and placed the sensor in my backyard. A bit bulky and unsightly, so just buy the smaller ones..., February 11, 2009
In spite of the retailer claiming that my smaller triggers from previous SkyLink alarm would NOT work, they did!! But my newer alarm came with these triggers (2). I find them a bit bulky and unsightly so I prefer the smaller ones with a smaller battery.

About the best thing about THIS trigger is that you KNOW if it is not in its closed position by the little red light. If the light comes on, it is not fully closed and alarm will not arm this particular trigger.

I installed the SC-1000 and purchased a few of these add-ons. It does the job picking up the signal quiet nicely and easy install. I suggest you stock up on the batteries because you dont want these to fail in time of need so test them once in a while using the chime mode. Anyway, my main gripe is the I had these on my window and when it got warm, the double sided tape started unsticking I found a couple of these dangling from a couple of my windows when the sun was beating on it...I basically had to move it around - make the sun heat doesnt get to it or else the tape undoes itself.

Easy to install and use, September 9, 2009
I bought this product about a year ago now and it has been working flawlessly since then. The unit is very easy to install - follow the directions that come with it - it took me about one hour to install the three door sensors (I bought an extra one) and the one motion sensor. I usually use the remote unit to arm / disarm the unit and even after a year of use the batteries do not need replacement.
I have yet to install the telephone piece of the kit - the problem I face is that my house has multiple telephone lines and I need to locate the primary one. After a lot of procrastination, I finally decided to get a professional to do this piece of the work. If you have a simple telephone setup this should not be a problem either. I've tested the system randomly during this past year and it has never failed yet. I have had no false alarms of it going off when it should not and have taken long trips with at least some peace of mind. I would certainly recommend this as a very good alternative to all of those expensive alarm systems - and managed to get a 15% reduction in my insurance premium to boot!!

The Window/Door sensors are not the most attractive pieces of hardware you've ever seen. The silver terminals on the magnet are exposed instead of hidden within a housing. They do work very well though, which is the most important feature they could have.

Be aware that in most of the product photos they do not show you the wire that runs from the "wireless" unit to the magnets, but there is one. It's only wireless back to the main control panel. With some planning you could probably install this with the wire hidden, like in new construction. For those of us with existing door and window frames however it will be hard to completely hide the wire.

Also keep in mind that if you keep your windows locked, an intruder will most likely be breaking your window, not just sliding it open. I chose to use these units on my doors and am looking into the vibration sensors for the windows instead, but they might work for your application.

I attached a few photos at the top of the page, and you can see where I needed to modify my wooden door trim to get the sensors to sit flat. I used a Dremel to do this, and it wasn't hard but there was not another way for me to mount these and get them to work without modifying the trim around the door frame.

Overall they do work very well and I can accept the aesthetics of them for the price I paid.

This thing works well, but stands out like a sore thumb. It's big, bulky, and archaic. They could have made it much more compact and streamlined, like other company's sensors are. This has a separate old style wired magnet sensor, and the wire runs to the transmitter. So you have to mount three pieces, instead of two.

Surveillance wire that works with a "But....", January 7, 2010
I purchased this cable through Amazon. This wire is typically used to connect a surveillance camera to a TV monitor or a recording device (VCR or DVR). Each end of the wire has a plug for video and DC power. One end of the cable has a male 2.1mm DC power connector and a male RCA type video plug. The other end of the cable has a female DC power connector and a female BNC video plug. The seller is generous enough to include 2 conversion adapters in case you need an RCA plug on both ends (for a standard VCR or monitor) or you need a BNC connection on both ends (often seen on time-lapse security recording devices and some more expensive cameras). The price was very reasonable for 100 feet of cable and the cable does work nicely.

Now for the "but...' part in the title of this review:
I failed to look closely at the picture. If you do look closely at the picture you will see two separate wires at each end of the cable which are joined into one single wire a few inches later. I assumed that there would be two wires attached to each other for the entire cable length just like any standard electric cord. If your security setup has your recording device right next to your power supply then this wire is fine and there is no problem. However if you have your recording device is in a lock box for added security and your power supply is not located in the lock box (perhaps because of concern about excessive heat buildup from the power brick or space or electrical considerations) then you will not be able to separate the video and power wire so that you can run the power wire to a different location. Cable that I purchased a few years ago had 2 wires on each end of the cable that are joined a few inches later just like this wire but the wires remain separate (but attached) along the entire length of cable. I could split the two apart with a knife for any length I chose. In my case my power supply is 10 feet away. In all likelihood the seller would accept a return but with the shipping cost it is probably not worth it for me. I will now have to find a 10 foot DC power cable extension wire and run the extra wire from the lock box to the power brick. Two distinct wires would have been so much easier and less messy. As I said this one is my mistake. I did not know this wire was sold in this format. On the plus side if stealth is part of your setup then a single wire is easier to hide than a double joined wire.

The seller was quick with shipping and had good communication about the purchase.

I have the 100ft version , works fine..

The wires inside are very thin and electric and Video are right next to each other , which could create a distortion in the picture, a techician told me .

He recomended RG6 cable with 90% shielding, and separating the electric cable from the cable that transports the video.
I tried , connected the camara directly to the TV with a very short RG 6 Cable.. ..No recognizable difference.

This cable works fine for the 100ft. No need for RG6.

Be careful not to bend it to much, not to break the fine little wires inside.

Protect it from the sun to have it last a bit longer !

Best outdoor system on the market today!, October 12, 2010
From the moment I opened the box the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision was very easy to understand and had great setup diagrams with color coded ribbons for stress free setup. Where I was mounting the unit 20 feet off the ground I connected everything in the house and tested it to make sure it was working first. Once the camera was mounted in place I simply adjusted it to the area I wanted to monitor and then used electrical tape around the mount joints as they are not as tight as I would have expected and I did not want to have to climb a ladder after every wind storm to adjust. Setup was very quick after installing the mounting bracket.

It should be noted the the ribbon (power) cable that connects to the outdoor camera is so flat and thin that you can bring it in through a window without compromising the window seal when the window is fully closed. This is a huge plus as I did not need to drill a hole for it.

I set up email alerts and also I highly recommend if you have some blowing tree branches in view as I do that you set up particular areas for movement detections. If you do this and set the motion rate for recording you will capture only scenes of interest which makes it so much easier when reviewing recordings.

The master system comes with the network hardware and the invaluable command center. This is extremely easy to navigate. You can zoom, pan and tilt effortlessly. I am thinking of adding this software for remote viewing as well.

The night vision is suprisinging very very good in low to know light. I am extremely impressed with the night vision and have to say that it is well worth the extra money.

The only drawback I can see to this system is that if you enable and use the audio component which comes built in and has great range, picks up way to much wind. I would like to see an add on for wind noise reduction. This would not keep me from highly recommending this product. I did a lot and I mean a lot of research (hands on and reading) before making my decision to purchase this camera and I am very glad I did.

I highly recommend this product! Picture is extremely clear not washy like others. The audio is good enough to capture voices and sounds with in the entire viewing areas and sometimes beyond.

I was not able to figure out how to upload a few pictures with this review otherwise I would have.

Thank you Logitech for a superb and well built system that seems to have it all.

I'm rewriting this review now that I've tested out the system for more than 2 weeks.

Unfortunately there are several areas where this system fails but I'm hoping its software related and there are fixes on the way.

First of all, the software included is easy to use but the way it works is extremely poor. I cannot get footage to record properly on my system. Either its because the cameras are not detecting motion until its too late, or because there's a delay from when the recording starts and when they were triggered. Either way, i've got nothing but an empty driveway after a car has driven down and past my camera, or footage of a person just walking out of frame once its stored on the hard drive. This is even after increasing the sensitivity which only results in constant false events. This makes this system pointless and a waste of money unless its fixed in the near future.

The framerate is too low when it does actually record, footage is blurry as a result. There's no way i can ever read a license plate as its been advertised unless its right in front of the camera.

the mount is garbage. Save yourself the nightmare and find a better quality one if you can. logitech should be ashamed to include such poor quality hardware with these expensive cameras.

if this system worked properly i.e. recording people walking up to my house which was the whole point of buying this thing, i'd give it a much higher score. the fact that i can use existing power lines makes it a breeze to install but without the ability for me to record footage consistently, i'll have no choice but to return this before my 30 days is up.

Two Cameras, both no good, November 22, 2010
I purchased two of the outdoor 700e cameras along with the Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision on September 27th; video quality is just ok but has way too many false alarms. Three weeks later the cameras were lost by the network and I had to do a "find cameras" diagnostic routine, one was found and the other was not. I left the one camera that could not be found plugged in (this was a mistake) hoping it would be discovered at some point but never was. A few days later I smelt something burning outside like wires, I did not want to believe it was the camera but as it turned out there was nothing else that could have been the cause so I unplugged it and the smell went away after about ten minuets. Now the other camera has gone missing, I have attempted to reset it and called Logitech support with no luck. The bottom line is that I am very disappointed in this system; I was hoping for a security system that would at least function, I did not get it. I will compliment Logitech on one aspect of this experience; they are sending me a UPS tag and will be refunding my purchase price. Unfortunately, it looks like it is back to the drawing board for me.

I have the 750e Master System set up with two 700e cameras for external monitoring and one 700i camera for internal monitoring. The 700e camera has night vision and works VERY well in darkness, so you can monitor both the front and back of your house in darkness. I have been extremely impressed with the image and audio quality of these cameras, as well as the extremely easy installation.

The AV signal is transmitted via a powerline adapter, so you don't have to run cables through the house, as everything goes right through your existing electrical outlets.

The software allows you to connect up to six cameras to the system. These cameras can be set up with motion activation so that you only record when action is taking place. Another great feature is the fact that you can view the cameras from either a web browser or your cellular phone (Android, Blackberry, iPhone). There is also a premium online service where you can control the system remotely and review recorded video instead of only live video.

You will need a master system to use this camera, so please keep this in mind before purchasing!
